Mission of Clute

Our Mission: The Clute Barrow Nelson Life Foundation Inc. (DBA Clute’s Foundation) was founded in 1999 to provide financial support to pediatric cancer patients and their families through requests received through pediatric cancer care/oncology centers and other official agencies. Clute’s Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization with an IRS ruling year of 2000, and donations are tax-deductible.

Athenian Clute Barrow Nelson died of a brain tumor in 1998 at the age of six. Because the community was so supportive during Clute’s battle with cancer, his parents, Don and Phyllis Nelson, founded the Clute Barrow Nelson Life Foundation in 1999 to provide monetary assistance to families of children with cancer. In its 23 years, Clute’s legacy has helped more than 850 families in need with financial support in excess of $850,000.
